NISTS UPDATE
Exciting News: NISTS's Legacy to Live On!
December 4, 2025
Dear NISTS Community,
We’re writing to share some exciting news with you: The National Resource Center for the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition has been selected as the successor organization to carry on the legacy of NISTS!
Since announcing our separation from UNG, we have diligently explored options for continuing this important work, and we couldn’t be more pleased that the NRC and University of South Carolina have enthusiastically embraced this opportunity. You can access the full press release below, but first:
What does this mean for the transfer community?
You will continue to have:
-
a strong, cross-functional national higher education organization championing your work.
-
the collaboration, training, and tools necessary to serve your diverse mobile learners.
-
mechanisms to share and engage in transfer research.
-
future in-person convenings!
What’s next?
Transition takes time, so throughout 2026 you will see the thoughtful integration of two powerful organizations. Our very own Emily Kittrell will lead the effort on your behalf, officially joining the NRC team in January. To continue to receive updates about this work, you’ll need to opt-in to the NRC’s email list when prompted in a few weeks. And no worries, you can continue to access an archived version of the NISTS website throughout the year.
We hope you are as excited as we are about this new chapter for transfer-focused professional development, research, and advocacy!
We’ll share more details about staying connected with the NRC in our final December update. Until then, please read the official announcement of our collaboration with the NRC and enjoy this video compilation chronicling NISTS’s history. (You might see a few familiar faces!)
Warmly,
The NISTS Team
